Inclusive Community Policy

Overview

ATLSECCON is committed to providing an inclusive and respectful environment free of discrimination and/or harassment that invites participation, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, religion, national origin or citizenship.

Diversity

We actively seek to increase the diversity of voices and perspectives shared at the event through calls for proposals, other open submission processes and through dialogue with the larger communities we serve. We are dedicated to creating equitable opportunities that make it possible for everyone to participate and invite you to share your own ideas and best practices, via email at info@ATLSECCON.com. Here are some ways you can help us build a more diverse conference experience:
  • Recommend appropriate speakers and/or program committee members to the conference chairs for program information.
  • Forward our call for speaker submissions to relevant groups with the message that we are interested in hearing their unique perspectives.
  • Suggest to potential speakers to submit a proposal during our call for submissions.
  • Organize community-based public speaking trainings and practice events.
  • Suggest ways the onsite conference experience can be more welcoming, supportive, and free from intimidation and marginalization.

Anti-Harassment

We welcome and promote mutual respect and understanding of all participants including attendees, colleagues, volunteers, board members, sponsors, suppliers, speakers, or visitors.  Discrimination and harassment is unwanted, unreasonable and offensive behavior towards the person being harassed, which creates an intimidating, hostile or humiliating environment for the person concerned. Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
  • Verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion
  • Sexual images in public spaces
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Harassing photography or recording
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Unwelcome sexual attention
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour

Enforcement

Participants are expected to follow the policy at all event venues and event-related social activities. Any person(s) asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately. Event staff/organizers retain the right to take any action to keep the event a welcoming and safe environment for all participants. This includes, but is not limited to, verbal warnings and/or expulsion from the conference with no refund, redress anything designed to disrupt, or having the clear impact of disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants.

Reporting

If a participant feels unsafe or unwelcome or witnesses harassing behavior towards another participant, they can report it to conference staff, identified by staff badges, buttons, or shirts, either personally or anonymously. Our team will be happy to help you contact hotel/venue security, local law enforcement, local support services, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event. You can submit an anonymous report with the form below. The form DOES NOT require your name or email address to submit.
You may choose to provide your name and contact information however, this is not required to submit your report.
